fanart of ZATO. recently i played Z.A.T.O. I Love The World and Everything In It. i don't usually play visual novels but i quite liked the character designs and the ui. i don't often draw fanart but i liked the characters and their designs were simplistic enough for me to have a fun time with this. i wanted to draw something more than just the characters standing around. i packed as many plot relevant motifs and references as i could while the game was still fresh in my memory!!!!!
i make animatics on a whim and this time i was inspired after watching a clip of zy0x and flins' voice actor (nic olsen). i have the motivation to make an animatic a few times year at most but i rarely follow through with finishing if i take longer than a day making it. as a result all my finished animatics are no longer than a minute in length. this one was supposed to be around 30 seconds, but i was ambitious with the number of frames i was planning to draw. doesn't help that i was drawing genshin impact characters. so really my motivation dissipated pretty quick.
sorin and rias, my ocs. i reeeeally like how this piece of sorin and rias turned out! when i first shared this piece, i captioned it "you'll always be there (for me)". a common theme with my oc pairs is codependency, where character A is in denial that this dependency goes both ways. character B appears more dependent on character A when in reality they are equally reliant, and desperate.
misc sketches. i fell into a preeeetty big art slump this month. plus i picked up a commission piece. whenever i'm feeling sluggish, my go-to character to draw is my oc asher (1st and 2nd image, with bright pink eyes).
asher. got bit by an art bug on a random saturday afternoon. when i'm struggling to hone motivation into action, i vary my approach. that could entail using a different brush, drawing on a darker canvas, working closely with a composition/pose reference... this time i used a color reference. i blurred the hell out of the image and used that as a base for coloring. it was life changing lol i want to use this strategy for coloring in future pieces. i've taken screenshots of movie scenes whose color grading i wanted to use as a palette so i might try it out with them next. it's fun working with unconventional colors. make a splash of colors and improvise from there. sure, asher's hair is supposed to be light, but i'll color it darker just for the fun of it.
